Lucy Thompson Dean BIO

Lucy DeanLucy Thompson Dean is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Assistant Vice President of Human Resources at Carolinas HealthCare System. Her areas of responsibility include employee prevention and wellness, employee health, and HR communications.

While in her current role, Carolinas HealthCare System has been recognized nationally for its employee wellness programs by the National Business Group on Health, the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.

Prior to the eight years she has been with Carolinas HealthCare System, Lucy spent more than 15 years in the public relations and marketing arena, in a corporate, agency and consultative environment. She is an alumnus of Leadership Charleston and was named one of Charleston’s “40 under 40” by the Charleston Regional Business Journal. She has received national and state awards from the Public Relations Society of America as well as the South Carolina Advertising Federation.

Lucy serves on the Board of the National Business Group on Health Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being, as a member of the Charlotte Chapter of the American Leadership Forum, and as a member of the National Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications, and earned her Master of Science in Human Nutrition from Winthrop University.

Lucy’s love of being outdoors has influenced her passion for servant leadership and community service, participating in programs such as the National Outdoor Leadership School, Outward Bound and Operation Raleigh. She has served on a number of local boards and led mission teams to Lithuania and Haiti.
