Nick Wharton

Nicholas V. Wharton is Chief Operating Officer at Urban League of Central Carolina’s, one of the nation’s highest performance rated Urban League affiliates. In his capacity, he leads the overall daily operations of the agency which includes human resources, finance, and facilities. With an extensive background in organizational development and diversity leadership, Wharton has ignited multi-generational leaders in organizations to achieve sustained educational and business outcomes. As President of Wharton & Wharton Associates LLC, Wharton has lead a consulting firm specializing indiversity & Inclusion leadership, facilitation, cultural competency training, coaching and community engagement. Wharton’s broad strategic leadership across educational sectors and corporate environments provides a unique set of organizational insights, skills, and competencies that adds real time value to human capital strategies. Wharton has lead premiere higher education academic development and diversity retention programs, K-12 public and private school diversity initiatives, HR diversity strategies, and successfully advocated for education policy and workforce development legislative concerns of higher education in New York and Washington DC. Wharton’s has strengthened global awareness and engagement with educational leaders in Europe, South Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. A gifted diversity thought leader and facilitator, Wharton has given numerous national presentations and lead critical conversations on diversity leadership, organizational trust, gender equity, cultural competency, strategic partnerships and community engagement. Wharton has held leadership roles with Wachovia Bank, Corning Incorporated, Charlotte Latin School, Ithaca City School District, Binghamton University, and Ithaca College. He serves on the board of directors of several non-profit including Women’s Intercultural Exchange Inc. (WIE), Men’s Champions Chair, WFAE-FM 90.7, Chris Canty Foundation, Anthony Morrow Foundation, The Diversity Forum. Additionally, Wharton serves on planning committee of the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast / YMCA of Charlotte and chaired the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools African American Males Task Force.

Wharton holds a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology/ Urban Studies from the State University of New York at Cortland and a Master’s of Science in Organizational Communication from the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College. Wharton is Trustee Emeritus, at the State University of New York, Tompkins Cortland Community College. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Regina Wharton, VP, Human Resources for the Carolinas at Fifth Third Bank and resides in Matthews, NC. They have three adult children, Nikkia, Washington DC, Attorney, Hasani, Miami, FL Marketing Analyst, and Hadiya, NYC Professional Dancer. The family attends The Park Church.
