Pappas founded Pappas Properties in 1999, a firm noted for its distinctive mixed-use and master planned communities - Birkdale, Birkdale Village, Metropolitan, Phillips Place and Sharon Square. In 2013, Peter expanded his focus and joined industry icon Ron Terwilliger in forming Terwilliger Pappas, a regional apartment development firm with offices in Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham. 

Peter started his career with the Bissell Companies where he was Vice President of marketing from 1984 to 1991. During that time, he was involved in the relocation of Michelin’s North America Headquarters to Greenville, South Carolina. He also served as President of Bissell’s land development subsidiary having responsibility for lot development in the prestigious Quail Hollow area of Charlotte.

In 1991, Peter joined John W. Harris in forming the Harris Group, a southeast based developer and provider of corporate services to numerous Fortune 500 companies. As a partner at the Harris Group, Peter’s responsibilities included the development and marketing of a number of major projects including Ballantyne, Morrocroft, and 330 South Tryon.

Peter has played a very active role in numerous community and trade organizations. Currently, he serves as a Governor for the Urban Land Institute and was the Chair of the 2012 ULI Spring Meeting. For six years, Peter served on the Board of Directors with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Peter is a member of the Charlotte Executive Leadership Council and has been awarded numerous honors including Realtor of the Year, the Realtor Citizenship Award and SouthPark Citizen of the Year. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University.
